Homemade Taco Shell I made them recently and I am glad that I succeeded in the very first attempt. I did many experiments and made this recipe just for you! lol 😛
This one is totally trial and tested error free!

What are Taco Shells made from?
All you need is
1 cup All-purpose flour
1 cup cornmeal (Makki ka atta)
2 teaspoon vegetable oil
1/6 cup water/ as required to make a soft dough ( to knead)
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon dried fenugreek leaves(optional)
1/2 teaspoon caraway seeds(optional)

How do you make a Taco Shell?
Mix all the above-mentioned ingredients, put water according to the requirement and drop by drop, just like as you knead a regular dough. This is simple.
Now divide the dough into small sections as per the size of tortilla you want.
Roll it thin, like 1/2 inch thick or even a little less..the thinner they are, more crunch it can bring in. Use any cookie cutter or bowl to shape them finely into roundels.Make your tortillas done and ready!
Don’t forget to prick them well in case of deep-fried otherwise they’ll tend two separate layers because when hot oil hits the moisture inside the dough it will break it into layers, a little science here :lol:
From here there are two different ways to proceed
- Either deep-frying
- Baking your tortillas and moulding them into the form of tacos
How do you make a hard Taco shell
This can be achieved both ways, but it works best if you are using cornmeal tortillas.
The whole wheat or just flour based doesn’t bring perfection here.
They tend to soften up a bit after some time, it is better to just grab them as soon as they come out of the oven!
How do you make fried Taco Shells?
In moderately hot oil, drop your tortillas for no more than 40-50 secs. You are not supposed to fry them completely.
Take them out on a clean cloth over your palm, put a thin rolling-pin in between and press them towards each other to form the shape of lovely Tacos!
If you already have a Taco mould, then you’re the king of this planet Earth! 😆
How do I make Taco Shells in the oven?
It is also damn easy, place the tortillas on the wire rack, fold them inwards just as shown in the image below.
375 F for 10-12 minutes, If you want hard taco shells( which may be a bit dry). Keep timer for 10 mins. It is just as perfect!

Yes, you can always! Set the oven timer for 2 minutes and you are all set!
Can you cook hard Taco Shells in the microwave?
Unwrap tortillas – place on a microwave plate. Fan out overlapping slightly. Microwave on high 45 seconds until warm.
then go on to the usually described process!
